Reston Petting Zoo

"There are two ways to live: you can live as if nothing is a miracle or you can live as if everything is a miracle."
Albert Einstein
Riding the tractor around the zoo

As Uncle would say, "oh, he's here"

Petting the ponies
...Or not

The pointing fist

Who should we feed?
Ohh, a Mama and her babies
Yea! We love babies!!

And Mommies and Daddies

Despite the fact that this excursion reinforced our belief that animals shouldn't be kept in captivity, it amused you. Ah, the kids and zoo ethical dilemma! You are really interested in animals and are affectionate and friendly to them waving and offering pets and kisses. You enjoy seeing them in person, in your books, and playing with your wooden animals. Such a lover you are!

Oh, I know, the whole zoo thing, right? It's so sad in some ways to see the animals in cages (though I guess they call them "habitats" now, right?). But the boys love them, and it's getting them interested in biology/zoology in some way, so how can I not take them? We went to the aquarium a couple weeks ago, and the whales and dolphins just seem so cramped, for our amusement. I do take them, but I feel a little bit strange about it the whole time. I just try to stay away from lectures, or at least to watch the tone of my voic: "Mommy, why is that lion walking back and forth?" "Because, honey, he wants to stretch his legs and run, but he can't! Poor guy"
