Big boy

My little silly goose. You enjoy doing silly things and asking me how funny they are!
"Very funny? Just a little bit funny Mommy?"

"Sorry, No more sorbet. No more apples."
But here's a banana!

Not sure if it is because you turned 29 months, I reached a better place in my second trimester, or since we came home from a three month vacation, but we are entering a new "big boy" world. Apparently, someone informed you this summer that you are a "big boy" now. I keep reminding you that you are my baby, but on occassion...you insist, "I'm big boy mom!" Meaning, you like to wear underoos, go in the baby toilet, use the big chair, wash and dry your own hands, bring your own plate to the kitchen, pour beverages, remind me things, offer suggestions to the agenda like, "first playground, second dinner and make cookies." There are certain tasks that you deem your roles in the house: helping with the garbage, flushing the toilet, laundry machine work, pushing elevator buttons, fastening your carseat buckles, scanning the debit machine at the store, etc. You become aghast and offended if I dare forget, "Mom! Wait! I do it!"

You have been working on several of these tasks for a long time now, so the biggest shake up for me is officially entering, "why?" camp. The first few weeks it was incessant. I went to bed scanning how I could come up with better answers to satisfy your need. What was it you exactly wanted to understand? All day long I heard, "why? Why? why? WHY? why?" I would respond and you would fire another, "why?" until we exchanged a volley of responses aiming somehow to reach the final, "why?....oh." Since, we never went through a "no" phase I am enjoying the curiosity workout.

I feel like we are finally entering a bit more of an easier time. You will finally play by yourself for fifteen minutes so I can do the dishes and clean up a meal. This amazing feat has me suddenly realizing your growth and high need personality and the fact that it is no longer going to be a solitary force in the home. Soon, we will be back at square one with a little baby sister and a toddler who works so hard daily to be a "brave" big boy.

You have also taken to your baby doll. This is fascinating for me because you have never formed any attachment to any blanket, pacifier, stuffed animal, toy, book, etc. Baby is different and you enjoy taking care of him. You give him car rides, bike rides, cuddles, reading to him, waking and putting him down for nap and bed. Every night baby is there for book reading and in the morning you bring baby downstairs. I never prompt or remind you of baby. It's all your internal clock. The other day we were driving to the fire truck museum and you were quiet for a minute (my chatterbug!) so I turned around and there you were in your carseat holding baby in your lap against you whispering to him. Your Dad and I see your behavior and are beyond sure God knew you had to be a brother long before we did and prepared this baby sister specially just for

our family.
