Halloween High

This year we have the sweetest little girl added to our family and an adoring big brother so we thought little boy blue and his lamb would be a fitting choice for Halloween.  Nana made it happen!  She made the softest coziest cutest lamb costume and matching vest and breeches.  Then the worst happened. Nana had a terrible accident. Nana suffered three fractures, two surgeries, and is recuperating in Michigan, thereby unable to spend Halloween with her kiddos as planned.  Boo hoo!  We are praying for Nana daily.  Speaking of terrible, Hurricane Sandy swept through before Halloween too!  Thankfully we remained safe and cozy inside but the rest of the East Coast is still recovering.  The rain let up for us to play outside and have some Halloween fun.  Yes, it's about time for something pleasant right?

The morning of Halloween sister woke Shadden up and Shadden quickly began morning cuddles and kisses.  Then he asked if it was Halloween and told Kealana and I, "Happy Halloween" and kept saying, "it's your first Halloween today, Kealana!!"  Shadden wanted to go trick or treating and have a lollipop immediately, but settled for pumpkin pancakes and carving our pumpkins.  Daddy was away this year so I did my best to carve two pumpkins with two eager beaver assistants.  Trick?  or treat?  Hmmm....

 What do you mean watch?
Kealana climbed right up the chair for some pumpkin action

Shadden said Kealana was on the left and he was on the right

We kept nice and busy inside during the hurricane.  We baked leaf, acorn (ate them!), and pumpkin cookies.  We made two batches of rice krispy treats one with peanut butter and one without for our allergy friends.  We made cupcakes, filled pinatas, played games, read books, played show (Kealana-your recorder blowing!  When will I ever get it on video?!?!?!!  It's hooteriffic!!!), watched movies, lit candles, played crafts, and cuddled!  I love my snugglybugs.  Our bed is filled with kids and cats.  California King?  Yes, please.  When I say "we" you know I mean the snickerdoodle trio-Shadden with full chef ensemble leading the events and Kealana chewing on spatulas and sticking eager paws into everything while riding my hip.  A Kealana apron is on the list!  Sadly, there are no pictures of kitchen prep this year.  My hands were full.  Kealana is in get into everything mode crusing and kissing and waving and chasing.

You didn't care for the knee socks and since Halloween is all about fun, we went without.

But, we did spring for some freckles!
Sister had a brown nose and brother had freckles.

Little lamb's bedtime

Everyone took a turn and some took a second.  On Shadden's third turn, he broke the pinata!!!!!!!
That face!  He looked at me in shock then started wailing away letting all the candy fly out!  One of those Mommy's favorites right there!

Shadden found one lollipop asked me to help him open it and if it was okay to eat it

Hurricane Sandy wiped out most of our garden!

Trick or Treat!
You did it all by yourself this year!

The three year old chorus of, "trick or treeat!"

One neighbor had the idea to wear fangs and pretend to suck the blood of one of the three year olds.  I watched in Mommy-to intervene or not to intervene-knowing Shadden was freaked out.  The rest of the Mommy's who knew the neighbor laughed it off and Ryan said, "Mommy he eat me!" which made us all laugh.  But, Shadden told me later, "I love Halloween mom!  But, I don't think I should go trick or treating anymore.  Maybe when I am 8, or 9, or 10.  Too much scary stuff."  I honestly tried my best to keep everything as friendly as possible.  I sheltered Kealana in the ergo.  We went at dusk the first early bird trick or treaters and came home early 7:30pm (hoping to avoid creepy costumes!).  But it still happened.  Shadden decided on his own that he would like to have a Harvest party with lots of games but no trick or treating anymore.  I hope we can find a fun (not freaky) church party and host a Harvest party.  I wish Halloween wouldn't be so goulish, but yea there's other holiday merriment!
